Yesterday I went to a bridal shower for one of my girlfriends from high school. It was an intimate family affair where people gathered to share memories and well wishes before the bride jets off to marry her beau in a tropical paradise. One of the themes I noticed when people were talking about the bride (who happens to be my friend of 17 years) was that she always went after what she wanted AND remained faithful.
Now, I recognize I have an audience of various faiths and spiritual beliefs. I, myself, am a Christian and try every day to live according to the “good book”. With that said, I couldn’t help but be psyched about this wedding – not because it’s bound to be an ubber fabulous affair or because my friend is carrying the Rock of Gibraltar on her fourth finger left hand. I’m psyched because now-a-days when people rush to get married just to say they have a partner or jump the broom because they are “getting old” and want to have children, it’s refreshing to see a couple who truly love each other and a woman who stayed faithful to her beliefs and received her reward.
See, many people don’t believe in the bible anymore. We live in a world that tells you that you’re not going to find anybody if you don’t have sex (because men need sex); if you’re not at size 4 (because you have to be physically fit to be attractive); if you’re too opinionated (because nobody wants a nag), etc. The truth is these are all diversions to keep us from what God has for us. It may sound “preachy” but think about it, how many times have you had sex with a person just to see their behavior change afterwards? How many times have you seen an overweight woman with a man (looking in love and happy)? How many opinionated friends do you have (count me in that number, LOL) who’ve seemed to find the love of their life. YOU CAN HAVE THE LOVE YOU SEEK IF YOU REMAIN FAITHFUL.
Don’t accept mediocrity in a partner because you think it’s as good as you’re going to get. Don’t settle for Mr. Right Now because you’re 32 and want to have a child. I met a woman at the shower yesterday who was 39, healthy and 5 months pregnant. God wants you to have the best and it’s out there for you. You just have to be patient and trust that true knowledge is knowing you don’t have all the answers.
While being faithful to God’s word isn’t for the faint of heart, the reward can be you sitting at your own bridal shower, with your “Rock of Gibraltar” engagement ring and sharing in that moment with your true love.
Can you sip a NON-alcoholic drink to that?
